Pioneers of the modern seafood space, The Oystermen is built on three core pillars of provenance, sustainability and old school hospitality. Put simply, we exist to serve delicious British seafood in a space that’s warm and without the white tablecloth formalities that often come hand-in-hand with fish restaurants.

How it all began.

Friends, seasoned restauranteurs and kindred spirits Matt Lovell and Rob Hampton founded The Oystermen in 2016. They first met when Matt interviewed Rob for a job and bonded over a shared love for seafood and good old fashioned hospitality.

The Oystermen began as a pop up luxury oyster bar serving first class oysters at weddings and parties, with a longer term vision to open a restaurant that showcased the finest seafood from all corners of the British Isles with a modern style of cooking.

After a year of buzz-generating parties, festivals, street food markets, pop-ups, brewery collaborations and weddings - including Matt’s own - that dream became a reality. The Oystermen Seafood Bar & Kitchen in Covent Garden opened in July 2017.

Six years later, The Oystermen continues to exist with a simple mission to serve delicious British seafood in a space that’s warm, inviting and without formality.

Matt and Rob are also the owners of wine shop, Bedford Street Wines, which is a short walk from The Oystermen and the perfect spot for a preprandial drink.
