The Oystermen Seafood & Saké Pop-Up

Fact: we love saké. And if you visited the restaurant during London Saké Week earlier in the year you’ll know it’s an absolutely incredible match with all things oyster… So deep has this love affair become that we’ve decided to take over an entire venue for a special saké & seafood pop-up extravaganza!

October 24 – 26 at 46 Great Eastern Street, London, EC2A 3EP

Saké and seafood is a pairing like no other and we’ve found ourselves banging on about it so much recently that we thought it’s about time we did something more to spread the gospel! So, we charged Alex and the kitchen team to put together an exciting menu showcasing our usual high-quality ingredients, all specifically chosen and prepared to match the carefully selected saké list.

The thinking behind this three-day event is to provide an opportunity to expand some unexpected horizons; to explore and celebrate a drink, which is often seen as an expression of Japanese identity and as such is (rather obviously) more associated with the cuisine and culinary traditions of Japan.

On the menu will be steamed Scottish mussels in a Cantonese XO sauce. Hand dived Portland scallop tartare with a sesame, lime and jalapeño dressing. Braised south-coast cuttlefish and ‘nduja broth. Native lobster thermidor. Our twist on Fish and Chips; with a garlic and rosemary marinated tempura haddock and, it goes without question, piles and piles of the freshest Dorset crabs and British and Irish oysters.

Highlights from the saké menu will include the perfect aperitif; Champagne method sparkling “Pearl” (delicate bubbles, orchard fruits), alongside some of our all time favourites: the Yauemon “Autumn Leaves” (medium dry, full bodied with a rich creamy

texture) and Tatenokawa “Stream” (Rich, with notes of fresh melon and candied pears) along with a couple of newbies such as the amazingly named Hyakujyuro “Purple Warrior” (stewed apples on the nose, followed by an intense rich umami flavour). This is a chance to explore a whole new world of food-and-drink pairing; something totally out of the ordinary. It’s all à la carte and we’ll be open for lunch and dinner. Naturally, places are very limited so get your bookings in here. If you have any questions, need further information or require allergy advice, please drop us a message here and we’ll be happy to help.

PS Of course, if you have friends or partners who aren’t as into saké as us (or you), there will be our usual range of beer and wine available. Sakés will be available in tasting sizes, by the glass and by the bottle. This is all about experimentation and trying something a little bit different…
