Friends and Seasoned restaurant pros Matt Lovell and Rob Hampton founded The Oystemen together in 2016. They first met when Matt interviewed Rob for a job! Initially The Oystermen set out to host first-class oyster bars at weddings and events but with the long-term ambition of opening their very own restaurant in order to showcase the finest and freshest oysters and seafood from all corners of the British Isles. Following on from their first gig – Matt’s very own wedding – a year of buzz-generating parties, festivals, street food markets, pop-ups and brewery collaborations later, that dream became a reality in July 2017 with the opening of the first permanent Oystermen Seafood Bar & Kitchen in Covent Garden.
The Oystermen wouldn’t be The Oystermen without the hard work of some wonderful professionals whose skill, dedication and hard work is second to none.
The front of house team is led by General Manager Andrea Bertone, the world’s finest Red-Headed Italian. He’s loud and flamboyant and insanely welcoming, Andrea has been working alongside Matt and Rob from the earliest days of The Oystermen pop-ups, he is a hospitality natural.
Our teeny-tiny kitchen is skilfully led by Head Chef Sebastian. Hailing from Italy, Sebastian has worked in some of the UK’s best and London’s finest kitchens, including Michelin starred venues Koffman’s and La Gavroche. Working his way up through The Oystermen ranks its a pleasure to have Sebastian in the big chair!
Formally known as Electrical Technician Weapons Engineer Joel Ryan RN, Joel has been with us since we opened on Henrietta Street. A true kitchen pro, the Navy’s loss is most definitely the kitchen’s gain. Joel has worked previously in Murano and La Petite Maison.
Not to forget Nico, Gianluca, Abdul, Billo and Mussa in the kitchen and Beata, Sam, Bego, Alice and the one and only Loris, on the floor. We couldn’t do it without you guys!
